Podiatry Services

Almost everyone will suffer from a foot problem at some time in his or her life. Your foot is a complex instrument and is composed of 26 bones, 19 muscles, 33 joints and more than 100 ligaments.

As a doctor of podiatric medicine (D.P.M.), your podiatrist is the only specialist trained to care exclusively for foot and ankle problems. The podiatric physician trains as a generalist first, then receives additional training in podiatry to qualify in the specialty.Podiatry Services

Residency training in foot and ankle surgery of up to three years is then completed, allowing the podiatric physician to sit for certifying examinations by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Today, there are more than 14,000 physicians trained in podiatry and more than 5,000 board-certified and qualified foot and ankle surgeons.

The most common ailments treated by podiatrists include:

  • Bunions
  • Hammertoes
  • Flat feet
  • Ingrown and fungal toenails
  • Warts
  • Heel pain
  • Diabetic foot care
  • Sports injuries
