Audiology-Weiss Hearing Health Center

Weiss Memorial Hospital’s Audiology Department provides Weiss Hearing Centercomprehensive hearing healthcare. Licensed audiologists provide quality and compassionate care for people of all ages, from school-aged children to the geriatric population.

A full audiological assessment is performed to assess the auditory system and to evaluate a person’s ability to understand.  Test results are fully explained and recommendations for optimal hearing health are made upon completion of testing.  If the patient’s test results indicate that the hearing loss may be medically treatable, the appropriate referral is made.

The National Institutes of Health report that 15% of 55-64 year olds, 30% of 65-74 year olds, and 40% of those 75+ have a hearing loss that affects communication.  For the patients who fall into these categories, the audiologist will recommend a hearing aid evaluation.  At the hearing aid evaluation, hearing aid styles and circuitry are discussed with the patient. There are many factors unique to each individual to consider when selecting hearing aids, including:

  • The severity of the hearing loss
  • Lifestyle need
  • Cosmetic preferences
  • Finances

The audiologist will assist the patient in making the best hearing aid choice for them.  The Audiology Department dispenses hearing aids with technology ranging from conventional to the very latest in digital advances.  Hearing aid cleaning and repair service as well as hearing aid batteries and supplies are available.

Weiss’ Audiology Department, in conjunction with the Physical Therapy Department, offers comprehensive vestibular testing for patients experiencing dizziness.  A series of tests are completed in order to assess the balance system.  The tests typically include audiological and middle ear tests and electronystagmography (ENG). The test results are interpreted and conveyed to the physician to assist in determining the best course of treatment for the patient.

The Audiology Department is open on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.
